Ah-Ha Moment...
IF I DO THIS, THEN GOD WILL DO THAT…
That concept is invalid. And for many years, I thought that if I did everything right God would bless me. So if you didn’t read the last post about Waiting then you should go back and read it… During my waiting period, I have endured many obstacles. One obstacle, or concept, that was difficult for me to understand is the Sunday Christian vs. the everyday human. I watched people be hypocritical, sneaky, impractical, two-faced, outlandish, spend unnecessary money and much more things and watch them get blessings after blessings! It made me so bitter. i mean BITTER! I couldn’t and didn’t understand how God would still bless someone just because they show up to church on Sunday but cut up Monday-Saturday. And some of these people are members of the church! But my husband, my good friend, and God often reminded me of this key thing:
Don’t compare the season that you’re in with the season that someone else is in.
First of all, EVERYONE goes through seasons, even the people that labor in the church. Nobody is above seasons. But even in their seasons, God deals with each person differently. And an even more key point… MIND THE BUSINESS THAT PAYS YOU! I have learned to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and worry about my own journey. When you zoom in on people’s shortcomings or flaws, they seem more unreasonable than they probably are. And even if it isn’t (in my case, it is spot on), when you pay attention to the negative aspects of someone else’s life, the enemy magnifies it more and you start seeing little things that have been a factor but now that you’re in a low season, it’s bigger in focus than it has been.
I saw this message from Steven Furtick the other day and the lightbulb went off. Within the first five seconds, I gained clarity… Steven said this:
“Maybe you need to hear that God’s love for you is not based on your performance. God does not validate how people validate.”
And that right there DID IT FOR ME! That was the answer to the life long question I had (Why does God bless people who only do right on Sunday?). God doesn’t give you “credits” for walking the old lady across the street, tithing and offering more money, or reading your Word, devotionals, etc. I am a literal person and in my mind if I did all the Godly things then God would bless me. WRONG! God doesn’t bless me or you anymore or any quicker than He blesses anyone else. We all go through seasons. We all have periods of being in a blessing season and a testing season. But your actions don’t make God love you anymore. Your actions don’t make Him rush your blessings anymore. He doesn’t validate you or add gold stars next to your name because you labor in the church or read your Bible more or pray more. That’s not how GOD works that’s how MAN works. After listening to this message, the burden of bitterness was lifted. My positive energy was restored because I understood that me doing all the “duties of a Christian” didn’t act as a shortcut to blessings.
